Last updated: [MILO: launch date, filled in on launch day]

This policy covers starshipjennings.com, the website of Starship Jennings. Starship Jennings is the trade name I use for my web design business in Washington. I'm Milo Jennings, I own the business, and I run it myself. Where this policy says "I" or "me", it means me, Milo Jennings, trading as Starship Jennings. It covers this website only.

In short: this site has no analytics, no advertising, and no cookies of its own. The only personal information I collect is what you type into a form. I use it to reply to you, and I don't sell it or share it for advertising.

What I collect

If you send the contact form, I get your name, email address, and business name, your website address if you give one, how you heard about me, who referred you if someone did, what you're looking for, and your message if you write one.

If you send the form on my audit and homepage mockup page, I get your name, email address, the website address you enter, and your message if you write one.

The email I receive from either form also shows the date and time you sent it.

When you open a page with a form on it (the contact page, or the audit and homepage mockup page), Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person and not an automated program. The check runs as the page loads, whether or not you send the form. To do it, Turnstile looks at your IP address, your browser's details (its user agent), a technical fingerprint of your connection, and which site the check is for. When you send a form, the program that receives it also passes your IP address to Turnstile, so Cloudflare can confirm the check came from the same connection. Your IP address isn't included in the email I receive.

When you load any page, the company that hosts this site receives the information every browser sends to load a web page: your IP address, your browser type, the page you asked for, and the time. I don't use it to find out who you are.

That's all. There are no analytics tools, advertising pixels, social media buttons, embedded videos, or chat widgets on this site. Its fonts and images load from the site itself.

How I use it

I use what you send to reply to you by email, to decide whether I can take on your project, and to keep a record of our conversation. I use Turnstile's checks only to keep spam and automated abuse out of the forms.

No one who writes to me is ever added to a mailing list or an outreach sequence.

Who handles it

These companies handle your information so the site and my email work. I don't sell your personal information, and I don't share it for advertising.

  • Cloudflare, Inc. hosts this site (Cloudflare Pages), runs the small program that receives your form (a Cloudflare Worker), and runs Turnstile. The form program passes your message to Resend to email to me, and doesn't keep a copy itself. Cloudflare's own privacy policy and its Turnstile Privacy Addendum explain what it does with this data. The addendum lists 2 uses for Turnstile's checks: protecting this site from bots, and improving Cloudflare's bot detection. For the second use, Cloudflare decides how the data is used, under its own policy.
  • Plus Five Five, Inc., which operates as Resend, emails your form to my inbox. It receives everything you typed into the form, with your email address set as the one my reply goes to. It doesn't receive your IP address from the form program. Resend keeps a copy of each form email, and the records of its delivery, for 30 days. It handles your message for me as my service provider. For its own records of running the service, such as which addresses an email was sent from and to, Resend decides how that data is used, under its own privacy policy. The companies Resend uses to run its service are listed on its subprocessors page.
  • Fastmail Pty Ltd is my email provider. Your message arrives in my Fastmail inbox, and our emails are kept there. See Fastmail's privacy policy.

I'd also share your information if the law required me to, such as in answer to a valid court order.

Cookies

This site doesn't set any cookies of its own. To protect the site, Cloudflare may set a security cookie in your browser, such as cf_clearance after a bot check. These cookies are used only for security, not to track you or show you ads. Cloudflare lists them on its cookie page.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

This site doesn't track you across other websites, and I don't sell or share personal information for advertising. So there's nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off, and the site works the same way whether your browser sends one or not.

No advertising or analytics company collects information about you through this site. Apart from Cloudflare's use of Turnstile checks described above, no other company collects information about your activity across websites through this one.

How long I keep it

The form program keeps nothing. Resend, which emails your form to me, keeps a copy of it for 30 days, and its backups can hold that copy for up to 7 days after that. I keep your message and our emails in my inbox for as long as I need them to reply to you and to keep a record of our conversation. If you ask me to delete them, I will, and Resend's copy is removed on its own 30-day schedule. Cloudflare and Resend keep their own technical records under their own policies.

Your choices

You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email hello@starshipjennings.com from the address you used when you wrote to me, so I know the request is yours. You don't need to give a reason.

Children

This site is for business owners. It isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent me something, email me and I'll delete it.

Security

The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Both forms are protected by Turnstile, and the form program checks every field before passing your message on. The form program doesn't store submissions itself. Resend's 30-day copy is described above. Cloudflare also counts how many times the forms are sent from each IP address, and blocks an address that sends too many in a short time.

Links to other sites

My case studies link to sites I've built for clients. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one doesn't cover them.

Changes to this policy

If I change this policy, I'll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If you'd like an earlier version, email me and I'll send it.
